Fillings

Filling is done to restore decayed or damaged tooth to its normal shape and contour. The tooth is cleaned off the microbes, cavity prepared and then filled with material as strong as tooth. This prevents further decay. Variety of materials are available for restoration with common ones being amalgam, gold, tooth-colored composite resin, glass ionomer cements. Filling seals up the spaces within the tooth which will protect the tooth from further invasion of bacteria and damage. Tooth colored fillings enhance aesthetics and are matched to the same color as your natural tooth giving a natural appearance. The strength and longevity of the filling varies with each material and also with patient compliance. Composite resins and glass ionomer cements have the ability to fuse to the teeth adhesively making it securely placed into the cavity.
